What is a Great Disc Jockey Really Worth?
A Professional DJ provides the positive catalyst for your party. Skillfully selected and played music will add the important
"feel good" element that helps everyone interact, rekindle relationships faded by time away and form new friendships. Music
is relaxing, exciting, romantic, and inspirational. Dancing keeps everyone at your event longer and contributes greatly to the
enjoyment of your guests. Your choice of entertainer is an insurance policy against bad memories of a disappointing
occasion. Unfortunately, the DJ is often the last service chosen, after much of the budget is spent on a venue, food and
clothing. This “backward planning” often forces Brides and Party Planners to shop for the cheapest possible price. Many
people will pay far more for a cake, flowers, or a veggie platter than they will for the most crucial ingredient of a party, the
entertainment. The DJ you select will be taking on the responsibility of over 80% of the success of your party and often
gets paid less than 3% of the total budget (based on the average $25,000.00 Wedding, 3% would equal $750.00), yet if the
DJ is a poor performer or worse, doesn't show up, your entire investment is wasted, not just that 3%.
Your choice of entertainer can also be thought of as a commodity purchased to “feed” each of your guests. If your dinner
buffet costs conservatively just $25.00 per person (with 250 people), you’ll pay $6,250.00 plus tax, and rest assured, the
Caterer will add a gratuity (sometimes 18%-25%), so before long you're at $7,800.00! Think about the last wedding you
attended. Do you remember what was served?. Most people do not, however they do remember if they had a good time...
- We offer Individual, personal attention to our clients. Consultations by phone or in person will be held to go over
their details to insure a successful event.
- We are available by phone anytime 24/7. If we miss your call we will get back to you within 24 hours.
- Our client will speak, with the actual person scheduled for their event.
- Our DJ's, MC's and Karaoke Hosts are experienced, hard working and do not do each party the same way. With
your input we will make your party unique and special.
- Our Karaoke hosts are also fantastic singers. This insures you that your guests will not have any pressure to get up
& sing right away. Group participation is important to events that offer Karaoke but if your crowd is shy you need
not worry. While they are getting comfortable, our Karaoke host will entertain them by singing various songs. Before
you know it everyone will get involved.
- Our Staff will be dressed appropriately to fit the occasion and the desires of the client.
- We use professional and well maintained equipment. And we carry backup equipment. Well maintained audio
equipment rarely malfunctions but just in case we are always prepared.
- Our clients will never see or hear anything inappropriate or distasteful on stage.
- Our shows will never end abruptly. If the client would like to extend the party we will be available for at least one
hour extra at a rate agreed to and included in the client contract. If we cannot meet this commitment due to travel or
multiple bookings for the day it will be stated and agreed to in writing in our contract.

About Our Rates
Disc Jockey, Karaoke and Entertainment rates vary based on talent, experience and ability of the people who you hire for
your event. In addition, equipment needed, music needed, location, the date of your event, the day of the week of your
event, the number of hours, and any options you require will effect the final price. Requesting specific entertainers may also
effect the pricing of your event. Our interactive website will provide you with quotes which reflect most but not all of the
choices available. If you have any special need or request please feel free to call us for a personalized quote.
The following are general guidelines that you can use to help plan your event and stay within your budget.
- Your package price is based on averaging similar events in your area then adding the cost of any options you require.
- Rates for the DJ industry vary greatly. The best price is not always the best deal, especially if you are planning a
wedding. As a matter of fact, surveys conclude that nearly 100% of brides would have spent more money on their
entertainment and made it their #1 priority in hindsight.
- A full-service disc jockey company will normally invest 12 to 30 hours to your special event but it may appear that
you are only paying for "4 hours". Consultations, music purchasing & editing, preparation, set-up and tear-down,
education and other business related endeavors add up to the overall success of your special occasion.
- The date will certainly effect the overall price of your event. Typically, April- October and December are Peak
months. By scheduling your event on an Off Peak month you can save you 20-25% on your overall price. Also most
events are booked on the weekend therefore they cost the most. Not counting Holidays, you can usually save on
booking your event on Mondays - Thursdays. In addition morning, early afternoon weekend events and some
Fridays can generally save you money.
- There are three types of options that will effect your final rate. The first is obvious. Any party supplies, props, or
other services that the DJ offers but is not included in the base rate (such as a special package that includes party
supplies). Second, additional costs may be added if you require services such as a light show, karaoke, interactive
games requiring props or prizes or a second system generally required to have music in two areas such as a
ceremony or a cocktail hour held in a separate room.
- The experience, skill, DJ type, access to parking, access to the room itself, number of entertainers such as dancers,
singers etc., will also effect you final rate.
Magical Music is a member of both the A.D.J.A (The American Disc Jockey
Association) and N.A.M.E. (The National Association of Mobile Entertainers)
All three of us strongly recommend that you ask he following questions when
considering a particular DJ ...
- Are you insured? Can you supply me with proof of liability?
Many responsible business owners carry liability insurance to protect their businesses and the consumer. Many locations
are beginning to require proof of liability. Ask for proof of liability insurance. Disc Jockey's receive a Certificate of Liability
which can be used as proof.
- Will you be willing to play requests and discuss music ahead of time?
A versatile Disc Jockey is willing to listen to your suggestions, give you feedback and play from your desired song list. A
professional Disc Jockey will also accept the fact you may not want certain songs played. A professional Disc Jockey
cannot know everything about your musical preferences and entertainment needs without communication.
- Do you use Professional Equipment?
Ask whether your prospective Disc Jockey works with professional audio equipment. If you are not sure, ask for their
equipment list and check with a local music dealer or the A.D.J.A. to verify they are using professional grade sound gear.
Remember that professional gear does not guarantee an entertainer's talent or service level, but is simply a tool for building
an exceptional event.
- Do you provide backup equipment at my event?
Although equipment failure is rare, do you really want your special occasion ruined because your Disc Jockey did not come
prepared? It is also important to know if your Disc Jockey has a back-up plan in case of illness or an accident. A member
of the A.D.J.A.has many resources available to them in case of an emergency. You may also reach their Hotline Number to
get a Disc Jockey when you have an emergency. The toll-free number is 888-723-5776. Booking a reliable Disc Jockey is a
very important decision for the success of your party. Selecting a Disc Jockey who is an active member of the American
Disc Jockey Association will provide you with the confidence that you have selected a trained professional. A.D.J.A.
members are more likely to be involved with other Disc Jockey's who can help them out with an unexpected situation.
- Does the Disc Jockey know the proper etiquette for your type of party?
A professional Disc Jockey will assist you with the planning of your special day. Most professional entertainers will
coordinate, emcee and provide the music that you desire. Ask if they have experience with your type of event.
- How much time does your Disc Jockey need for a proper set-up?
Punctuality is a necessity. Most Disc Jockey's arrive at least one hour prior to the start time you've given them. Your
entertainer should ideally be setup and in-place before your first guest walks through the door.
- Does the Disc Jockey provide you with a written contract?
It is extremely important to have your booking confirmed in writing. Ask for a written agreement, especially if you are
paying an initial retainer. The standard initial payment for entertainment services is 50%. If you are expecting a specific
entertainer, make sure you get it in writing as well.
- Will the Disc Jockey and the staff be suitably dressed for our occasion?
Specify the type of apparel that your Disc Jockey is expected to wear for your occasion.
Formal attire or coat & tie are the most popular forms of attire. If you are having a "themed" event, make sure your
entertainer is informed.
- Does The Disc Jockey Service belong to any professional organization or trade group?
Although belonging to an organization or trade group does not guarantee the talent or professionalism of a disc jockey, it
may indicate the companies willingness to network, learn and grow. Disc jockeys can learn through local chapter meetings,
national DJ conventions and seminars geared toward the entertainment professional.
